Madrichim Brit

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Role Modeling - Behave in the positive manners that you expect to see from your students. They will follow your lead!
  • Collaboration with Teachers - Lead groups and activities in the classroom.
  • Awareness  - Help students build relationships by checking in with students throughout the class time. Be on the lookout for bullying.
  • Flexibility  - Adapt to last minute changes in programing while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ownership of Transition Times  - Keep an eye on students at these times; play a game or check in with students.
  • Timeliness - Arrive 15 minutes early to class and take it upon yourself to check in with your teacher prior to the start time if you have questions. All Madrichim are required to sign-in upon arrival and sign-out just prior to departure. This helps us track your hours (for salary or community service) and also helps us to keep you safe in the event of an emergency.
  • Active Participation - Participate in the lesson. This includes T'filah, Hebrew Through Movement and other specialist spaces. You are modeling for the students. Be a leader!
  • Creativity We want your ideas and talents! Find an appropriate time (not in front of students) to share your great ideas with teachers and Program Directors.
  • Problem Solving - Follow the protocol given during the Madrichim training and/or seek out one of our Education Directors if an issue arises during class.
  • Confidentiality  - Keep student issues private and limited to those who need to know. Do not use the names of students when sharing stories about class - even if they are positive.
  • Professionalism - Do not share inappropriate details of your own life (such as whom you are dating) with students.
  • NO Cell Phone Use - all Madrichim are required to power off their cell phones from sign-in until sign-out. This is a job and your focus should be on your students. If family members need to reach you, they can call/text Lauren or the Ed Office.
  • Dress Code - You are required to wear a visible Madrichim shirt and your name tag at all times. This also includes wearing closed-toed shoes and anything else you need to fully participate in all activities.
  • Language Use - Curse words and derogatory language are not acceptable at Beth Am, whether you are with students, peers or teachers/staff.  Beth Am Youth Education programs have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying. Please lead by example by using kind and inclusive language.
