Beth Am welcomes guest speaker Amichai Magen, a well-known Israeli professor and thought leader, who will talk about "Israel's Transformative Tragedy: Where do we go after October 7th?" Magen will discuss what brought us to the current crisis, its meaning and the competing narratives that will shape Israel socially and politically in the coming years. His talk could not be timelier. 

Currently, Magen is a Visiting Fellow in Israel Studies at Stanford University. In Israel, he is Director of the Program on Democratic Resilience and Development (PDRD) and Head of the MA Program in Diplomacy & Conflict  Studies at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, Reichman University.

Magen has written numerous articles on law, politics and international relations, covering topics such as democracy, the rule of law, political violence, liberal orders and Israeli politics. His current book project explores the role of non-state actors in world order. He has won numerous awards, including the Yitzhak Rabin Fulbright Award (2003), and he is a board member of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations (ICFR) and the International Coalition for Democratic Renewal (ICDR). 

Magen's talk is presented by Beth Am’s Jewish and Israel Advocacy Committee. Co-sponsors include Congregations Beth Jacob (Redwood City),  Kol Emeth (Palo Alto), Beth Ami Israel Committee (Santa Rosa) and the Sonoma County Israel Committee.
