Immigration Reform: A Jewish Approach

Immigration is one of the most contentious and consequential political issues of our day. All across the nation, indeed the world, the conversation about immigrants and immigration policy have sparked passionate debate: some want to limit those seeking new lives in foreign countries and close borders, while others plead for empathy and tolerance. But what is the Jewish view? As a people who has lived through exodus, expulsion, and diaspora, we know what it is like to be strangers in strange lands. This session explores these aspects of Jewish history and memory. We will also study Jewish values and laws that can help us answer the question of how Jews today should approach the subject of immigration.

Beth Am's scholar-in-residence weekend is made possible by the Saxe Family Scholar-in-Residence Endowment Fund.
